what to expect in the first few weeks
Swelling, redness and tenderness is all normal in the first few weeks.
Some minor bleeding, dried blood, minor discolouration and or bruising is normal in the first week to two weeks.
Healing crusties can then start to form in the next few weeks, do not pick at these they will generally spray off and rinse off in the shower themselves.
During weeks 5 - 8 you will be booked in for a downsizing appointment to help the healing process.
our General aftercare guide to protect your healing journey
do
Attend your downsizing/checkup appointment to ensure appropriate healing
For ear lobes; it is critical to pat dry the back of the lobes before sleeping at night and not to leave this area with any moisture
Reach out to your piercer if you have any concerns or want to double check your aftercare routine.
Always wash your hands before touching your piercing
Don't
Do not touch your piercing, there is no need to rotate, twist or turn the piercing
Do not remove the jewelry prematurely, as it may cause the piercing to close.
Do not use cotton swabs or tissues, as fibers can irritate the piercing.
Do not sleep on the piercing; this will cause angling and trauma bumps
Avoid swimming; whether that is your own pool, public pool or ocean in the first few weeks
Cleaning guide
Use your Neilmed sterile saline as advised by your piercer (either 2 or 3x per day); do not use any other products on the piercing.
Avoid over-cleaning; twice daily is sufficient.
Rinse piercing in the shower.
Do not use cotton tips to clean your piercing.
Avoid Harsh Products - Do not use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, antibacterial soap, or ointments. These can irritate the piercing and slow healing.
-
Pat the backs dry before sleeping at night (mentioned above)
-
Clip masks into hair, or wear tie back masks
-
Use alcohol free mouth wash 2 x per day.
Rinse mouth out with water after meals or drinking anything other than water.

-
Pat dry the area before you sleep at night.
You must not have tight banding clothing, zips, buckles etc sitting and rubbing on this piercing while healing.
-
Keep covered as discussed over the first few days
-
Be careful not to knock the piercing when doing all regular face washing and skin care routines
